Working in Corporate America (Canada anyway), is absolutely soul sucking. Especially when the company in question is in banking. One of the ways I’ve been trying to stay sane has been getting more involved with my Pilates/Yoga community. Like my friend Emily and fellow corporate servant advised when I brought up searching for a studio – It’s important for everyone to dedicate at least an hour a day to themselves.
After nearly 2 months of consistent 5 day a week work outs, I definitely feel happier than ever, knowing I’m staying active and continuing to work towards my goal. With hot yoga and strenuous reformer pilates – the difficulty of the workouts and focus required genuinely help take my mind off impending dooms at work, or upcoming bill deadlines. Plus, it’s such a fun thing to see what your body is actually able to achieve, for me for example, it was: Wow! I’m still able to do a full bridge at 26? Fascinating.
For some people – weight training is the way to go. For me, I may have done it everyday in high school, but as an adult – I really couldn’t get into weight training and I couldn’t get into running. Unfortunately I lacked the discipline required to drag my ass to a stinky weight room in my apartment gym, and pretend like I knew what I was doing.
