WHEN I’M MAD

Part of being a responsible adult, is that you can’t just get up and abandon your daily duties. After all, you’ve got a job to dread, rent to overpay, and valuable relationships to nurture. Whenever I’m mad at the world, there isn’t much I can do to escape from it, given the aforementioned responsibilities. So what I do instead are the following:

1. Look at the city skyline

My go to especially if it’s late at night and I can’t for the love of safety leave my apartment. Admiring the city skyline helps take my mind away from whatever the nuisance is, the sparkling lights and the sound of air brakes of buses, remind me there are other lives and other things to think about. Sonder I think – the idea that every human lives their own silly and complicated lives. Also, a cheeky boutique hostel esque chain of hotels, and maybe a sound system. Actually – that’s Sonos.

    2. Go to the mall

Disrespectfully to my wallet, back when I was in Uni and had a big exam coming up – I’d always find myself hopping on the bus headed straight for the mall. Such wonder, so many things to see, hear, smell, and touch. Plus, I’d get my steps in for the day. God knows I always used to go to bed with sore calves after a day at the mall! Like Rachel says, I light up like nothing else at the mention of MALL!

    3. Do my dishes

Surprisingly (but also not really), one of my earliest discoveries. Often I would go do the dishes after an argument with my lazy hoarder dad. Doing the dishes both gave me a sense of accomplishment and took my mind off something as I had to focus on the task at.. rubber gloved hands.

    4. Take a HOT yoga/pilates class

The emphasis here on HEAT! Whew these damn classes are so hard, the only thing I can focus my mind on is not slip and sliding on my sweat. Caution however, sometimes stinky people in the class make me more irritated than when I started.

I think that’s all really, basically find distractions. Per the wise words of my therapist anything that will require at least 70% of your attention will do during times of a crash out. Okay, ciao!
