MY CURRENT OBSESSIONS

I haven’t blogged in nearly 4 years I’m sure, so instead of yapping why (laziness, lack of motivation, draining social circle, etc) – I think I’m going to document a few of my current obsessions..!

1. Denim

Denim has most definitely been making a comeback this past year, with the revival of Louis Vuitton’s F25 collab with Murakami, it looks like most Y2K, vintagey silhouettes and materials are. Other vintage LV pieces like the Speedy and Baggy from Marc Jacob’s 2005 collection are seen making their ways up on Vestiaire Collective, newer* consignment stores, and Pinterest. LV even released an updated version of their denim Sunset bags this year – lovely! However not worth the price point.

In addition to Louis – Chanel’s 2024/2025 Cruise collection also features an extensive repertoire of denim bags. For example, the Hobo Bag, whose silhouette I’ve been eyeing and dying for..! Personally, I’ve still utterly obsessed with my Balenciaga Le Cagole which Eric got me for my birthday this past January, love love love love her! Only wish she was less susceptible to ramen soup spillage (it’s for this reason I now carry a Tide go pen on me, and have started using a plastic, denim patterned bag on low key occasions).

* I say newer, because it seems traditional consignment stores – Fashionphile, The RealReal, Mine&Yours, etc – are all still infatuated with loveable but albeit boring, classic Chanel and Hermes collections.

2. Press-on Nails

For a while – I was obsessed with Gel-X, and doing my own nails for vacations on other occasions. Then I watched a few TikToks about the longevity of press-on nails. Yep, that’s right, the kind from 2008 that would never stay on despite supergluing it 1000 times. In the new age, many press on nails are made using hard gel, and many are custom hand painted – many reflecting the current summer nail trend of waves and orchids. Glues and techniques have also been greatly improved – I’ve been influenced to use the Sally Beauty nail glue. Personally I’ve been loving press-ons because I don’t have to go through war to remove them whenever they’re annoying, they don’t damage my nail beds as much as gel (since gel seeps into your nail to adhere properly), don’t cost $85 every 2-3 weeks, AND – are just so beautiful! Love! Love having a French design on my nails that wasn’t painted using my own tears.

3. Various Jams & Matcha

A few weeks ago, my co-op student turned good pal gifted me a few jars of unique jams – Raspberry Lychee, Kiwi Orange, and Strawberry Oolong. I’ve only tried the Raspberry Lychee flavour for now, but have been mixing it in with my matcha in the mornings. Heavily influenced by the “strawberry matcha” trend, and my want to limit caffeine consumption via coffee – this has been a delicious and chic way to enjoy jam and matcha !!
